Belle - Halloween Tutorial

This is the first of my Halloween tutorials, I wanted to start with something easy then work up to the best ones. Don't worry I will have you wowed ;) The anticipation is killing you isn't it?

I choose Belle because she is very soft and come on, who doesn't want to look like her really? I thought it would even be a good look for a first date! This look will look good on anyone, the colors are neutral and romantic. For inspiration I even watched the movie Beauty and the Beast :)

I will also show you how to do your hair like her at the end of this tutorial, I didn't use a wig since I already had long brown hair of course :p

First are the same steps as always moisturizer, and face primer. They will forever be the first steps to any makeup you apply. Next is foundation, Belle has a really flawless skin, so you want to make sure your skin looks flawless as well. For this I suggest using a liquid foundation, it is the easiest to blend. I applied two coats of Loreal's True Match, Super Blendable Makeup in ivory. I spot treated my cheeks a third time to rid my cheeks of their rosy color. Now take your powder I am using Smashbox's Halo powder, and take a big fluffy brush and lightly dust all over your face. By doing so you are sealing the foundation, giving it a more finished look, and giving an airbrush type of effect. Next concealer, apply this under your eyes, sides of your mouth, sides of your nose, where any redness occurs and any blemish or imperfection you want to hide. Now define your eyebrows, Belle's eyebrows are thin and roundish shaped; however do not worry about following her exact look, because what looks good on a cartoon doesn't necessarily mean it will look good on you too :p So follow the natural shape of your eyebrows, filling in any areas where the hairs are sparse.

The next step is eyeshadow, now you can basically do whatever you want for this part but I decided to do very light subtle pinks to keep this looking natural and soft. I first applied some eye primer, when I doing natural and not so bright colors I like to apply Smashbox's eyelid primer more than using my MAC one. So for this case I used Smashbox's eyelid primer. I applied a shimmery pink eyeshadow to my lid, then a lighter pink to my crease and up to my brow bone, then applied a light shimmery white to my brow bone. I also applied the white to the inner corners of my eyes to brighten them up a bit. Then I wet my brush with water and dipped it in the pink shimmery eyeshadow again and applied it to the center of my lid to make the color more visible. The colors are a little hard to see with the camera but you get the idea.

The middle color is the color I used for my lid, the pink was for the crease and white for brow bone and inner corners.

Now time for eyeliner, I used my Stila Black Cat eyeliner I was going to use liquid eyeliner, but I was afraid that the look would loose its soft and romantic feel so I opted out and used the Stila one instead. Start from the middle and work your way out to the outer corners. Wing the eyeliner out for a cat eye look. If you notice Belle has three distinct eyelashes, and winging the eyeliner out is creating the first one. Then go back to the middle where you started the line and trace along all the way to the inner corner. Belle's eyes are very defined with black, so you want to do the same.

Next step is fake eyelashes, you can buy these at any drug store. For this look we will use individual eyelashes, which can be tricky. Take your glue and apply a little tine tiny dot on your finger, not directly on the lash. You have to work fast because the glue dries fast. Take the lashes you want to apply, I chose the longest ones, and stick the end of the lash in the glue let the glue get tacky for 20 seconds and apply to the corner of your lash line. Repeat this step again with another lash and apply right next to it. Then curl your lashes, but be careful because the lash curler could bend your lashes. I tried to only curl my real lashes, however it may be a better idea to curl your lashes before applying the lashes :p If you want, instead of individual lashes, you can buy any regular size drug store lashes, cut them in half and apply them to the outer half of your lashes. Apply your favorite mascara.

The next step is highlighting, as you can see in my picture above my cheeks are very illuminated. To do this I first applied a soft pink blush, Bare Minerals Laughter, to my cheek bones and apples of my cheeks. Then I applied Benefit's High Beam and a lot of it. I applied this all over the apples of my cheeks, until I got that super glow. I also applied it above my eye brows and right above my lips and below my lower lip.

The second to last step you want to make your nose look smaller, more cartoon like. Belle's nose is really small, so we want to get that look. This is done with a light brown color. Just take your brush and follow the lines of your nose looking straight into the mirror. To soften the harsh edges take a fluffy brush and light brush over them. This sounds weird I know but it really does make a difference ;)

The very last step is lips. Belle has light pink lips which are very defined. I took a lip brush and outlined my lips with my concealer. To define them and give them a perfect shape. You can basically create any shape you want. Take a light pink lipstick color on a lip brush to fill them in. I am using an Estee Lauder light pink lipstick.

FINISHED! :D Now time for hair, wash your hair and if you have flat and lifeless hair, apply a rootlifter in your hair before it dries, or before you dry it. I just let my hair air dry since it dries curly. Belle's hair has her hair parted and pulled back on either side to the back of her head. I pulled my back at my side part with bobby pins, pushing them forward on my face a bit. Then I took my hair and pulled half of it up in a pony tail and made it into a bun, leaving some hair down. I then took an extention pony tail hair piece and clipped it right under the bun pushing it forward. Belle's hair is very neat and in place, however my hair was a bit on the messy side and I liked the look of it, you can create a cleaner look with hair spray and curling irons or just buy a wig :p Pony tail extensions are really cheap, around $20 that is for synthetic hair, the real hair ones are a lot more pricey. As long as you take care of the synthetic ones you will be just fine with them :) DO NOT WASH THEM. That ruins them and makes them frizz. Get a wig brush and only brush the hair with that brush. Others will pull the hairs out.

The first picture is the clip in, and the second is my real hair with the bun.

Pinup girl

I have always loved the 40's and 50's era. I even used to tell my mom that I was born in the wrong era. I love this feminine look, its perfect for perfect for parties, nights out on the town or even shopping! I definitely had a lot of fun wearing this look, it is very flirtatious and innocent.

First start off with a clean face, apply a foundation that is one shade lighter than your skin tone, because this look is very light. Light skin, pink playful cheeks, and ruby red lipstick. Also apply concealer on your imperfections and fill in your eyebrows. To seal in your makeup apply a loose powder foundation all over your face. Make your eyebrows darker than usual, just color in the gaps. The front should look lighter than the back.

Take a pearl white eyeshadow color and apply it all over your lids then line your eyes with a liquid eyeliner:

Next apply false lashes, make sure they are dramatic. You want them to stand out and not hide behind your eyeliner. Use lash glue, don't just stick them on. The stickiness they already have on them will not stay on your eyes or lay correctly. You can buy a tiny bottle of lash glue at any drugstore and they are always right next to the lashes. Hold the lashes up to your eyes and see if they need to be cut to fit your eye shape. I actually had to cut these they were just a tad bit long. Don't throw the pieces you cut off away, save them you can still use them as individual lashes. You could always use them to add a little kick to your everyday makeup. Use toothpicks to apply a thin strip of lash glue and to help you get the lashes exactly where you want them. Don't apply too much glue you don't want to get the glue in your eye or glue your eye shut. Kidding :p Make sure your lashes are as close to your real lashes as possible. Blink a couple of times to make sure they will stay. DO NOT APPLY MASCARA. You will not need any mascara at all with this look. The lashes should be long enough that you can't tell where your real lashes are at. If you apply mascara then the lashes will clump and will make the whole look fall apart. When your lashes are applied and you are happy with how they look fix any mistakes because when you pull off the lashes to move them or alter them it tends to pull of some of the eyeliner. You might even want to thicken the line just a bit since you will still be able to see your lashes.

This is how your eyes should look:

Take some of the pearl white and apply it in the corner of your eyes to brighten up the eyes a little bit. I thought the eyes looked too colorless so I added some Bare Escentuals Diamond Laughter Blush right under my lash line. It gave my eyes just a bit more color.

For this look your cheeks need to be bright pink. You will apply more blush than your normal routine.I am using two different pinks and a highlighter. First apply a the Maybelline's Dream Matte Mousse in Pink Frosting in a circular motion on just the apples of your cheeks and then apply Bare Escentuals Diamond Laughter Blush (pictured at right) to the apples of your cheek and to your cheek bones as well. Blend the two colors together. Next smile and take the highlighter and apply just on the apples of your cheeks. I also apply this on the inner corner of my eye to brighten them up some more.

To finish the look off take a matte red lipstick I'm using Maybelline's Are You Red-dy lipstick. Apply on your lips and use your finger to get in creases. Be careful red lipstick bleeds and if not applied correctly could make you look like you just sucked some blood. :p Take a tissue and press both lips on it. This helps take some color away and also helps stop the bleeding. Do not apply lip gloss, just leave the red lips matte.

Finished! :) Now do your hair, mix it up a bit do a 50's inspired hairstyle and stand out. Put on a cute flirty outfit, or 50's costume. The possibilities are endless! :) Make your own trends don't put on what other people tell you to put on. Don't copy what they are wearing in the "fashion magazines" Create your own style and feel good about how you look. To make this look complete I did a cute pinup hairstyle and added a flower.

Tickle Me Pink

Want a perfect look for your job? For school, for shopping or even for a day out with the girls? Then try this fresh, sweet and innocent look!
Perfect for school, work, shopping or any daytime activity. Plus it's really quick and easy! This look is great for any eye color but I think it helps make the green eyes pop. ;)

First of all, start off with a clean face. Foundation, concealer, eyebrows filled in, and powder. To save space I won't talk about how to apply them. I also did a tutorial on how to apply it you can read it here. However I will tell you after you put your liquid foundation on it is always good to put a powder on to seal the makeup, and it helps covers up redness. I use the lightest Maybelline Mineral Power (shown at left) To apply first you need a kabuki brush of some kind. Tap the powder into the the cap of the container and take your brush and swirl the powder into the brush. Then apply all over your face in circular motion. Make sure you coat your skin evenly.

Next take a dark pinkish color. I am using Mac's Hepcat Frost:

Take a flat makeup brush and load it up with the eyeshadow and apply it all over your lids and wing the color out a bit to make the color stand out. Plus it makes the look more glamorous. When applying the eyeshadow do not go past the crease. Make sure it is evenly applied. Then you want to take a blending brush and blend the eyeshadow to the shade you want. Usually when I apply this pink it is too dramatic so I like to tone the color down by blending. Then take a purplish pinkish color, I am using the purple from Almay's intense i-color pallet:

Then take the same flat brush and apply it inside the crease. Again take the blending brush and blend away any harsh edges so that the two colors flow into each other. Like so:

Then take a pearl whitish color and apply it on the brow bone. Make sure it isn't matte and it has a little bit of a shimmer to it. It really ties the whole look together. Then make sure you apply it into the corners of your eyes to brighten them and make them appear bigger.

Next take a purple/pink eyeliner and line as close to your lash line as humanly possible. The best part about using this eyeliner is that you don't have to make sure the line is completely straight! :) Then line your lower lash line. And connect the two lines together to create a V on the outer corners of your eyes. Don't apply it on your waterline since it won't be visible. It will appear very light and it may not look like you have any eyeliner on. But after you finish you will see that your eyes are 'defined.' For this tutorial I am using Almay Intense i-color eyeliner "bring out the green". (Pictured at the left) Even if your eyes are not green, this eyeliner is perfect for this look. It is not dramatic since this look is in no way meant to look dramatic. Note: it doesn't have to be this exact eyeliner. You can use any light purple/pinkish eyeliner. Don't be afraid to play with color, or be afraid to try new things.

Next step is blush. Choose a bright pink to keep the makeup clean. I am using Bare Minerals Diamond Laughter Blush. (Pictured at right) Use a blush brush and tap a tiny amount of the blush into the cap of the blush and swirl the brush in the cap about four times so the color gets inside the brush. Then tap the brush on the cap to get rid of access because you don't want too much color, that could over power the look. You want to keep it fresh and clean. Then smile and apply it on the apples of your cheeks in a circular motion and then back toward your hair line. Then lightly brush your chin, nose, and forehead for a touch of color.
This step is optional but I love to accentuate my lips. I take a white shimmery peal color and apply it on my cupids bow. Yes, that really is the name :p Take your index finger and lightly touch the eyeshadow to get just a dot of it on your finger and rub into the indent between your nose and mouth. Make sure it is evenly covered and there isn't an area whiter than others. After applied you should see the light reflecting your lips and making them not only appear larger but stand out.

The last step is lipstick! I suggest to use lipstick instead of lip gloss because the glossiness will take the attention away from your eyes. So stay with a light pink color, or a color closest to your natural lip color to keep the makeup looking natural.

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial! :) Questions? Comments? Email me!
